Living in BC the weather can be unpredictable so you have a few options when dealing with rainy/windy/cold weather on your photo session date; we can go ahead as planned using umbrellas, use a covered area we suggest, use my studio, or postpone if we can arrange another time.
The day before (or even the morning of your session) we can decide what you'd like to do. We often have predictions of rain, but it can be minimal and intermittent, and we usually work around it. Also, rainy day photos can be quite fun if you embrace it with rubber boots and umbrellas!
The most important thing for good photos is good lighting! Bright and harsh midday sun can cast shadows so we usually suggest booking your session an hour or two before sunset to capture golden hour light. If you can't book an evening then it's important to choose a place with shade for daytime photos. If we end up with a cloudy day, we can use any location but because we can't predict the weather, choose an evening or a location with shade.
The best months for photos are between April and early November although we can recommend some nice places in winter, too.
A great wardrobe can take your photos to a whole new level. Here are my top tips:
* See photos on Pinterest for "Photo Session Wardrobe" ideas.
* Pick a colour pallet (e.g. Warm - beige/cream/ brown/caramel OR blue/grey/black/green) and find clothes that coordinate.
*Avoid only one person in a lot of white as it draws too much attention.
*No logos or text, it can be a little distracting.
*Add a little texture and a little pattern for interest.
* As most women know, matching shoes really do make an outfit.
*Consider the weather and dress with layers. A cold person is usually an unhappy person.
Just yourselves and all the normal things you'd pack in your diaper bag for your baby. We have all the props, wraps and fabric needed to style your session but you are welcome to bring that special something you'd like included in photos (e.g., the knitted blanket from grandma).
For most sessions it takes about 2-3 weeks but let me know if you are in a rush and I will do my best to accommodate (extra charges may apply). All images are fully edited and are sent via email in an online gallery. From that gallery you are able to download, print, and use the photos whichever way you choose.
Yes! We have experience with many places in the Abbotsford and surrounding areas. We can send you galleries of places from which to choose. We make suggestions based on the time of year, time of day and comfort of people in the session. We are always open to new ideas, too.
We accept cash, cheques or email money transfers to perfectmoments@shaw.ca. Final payment for a session is due on your session date.
A $100 retainer is taken at the time of booking. If you need to postpone your session that retainer is transferable to a new session date.
