Big Boys in the Dirt – Abbotsford Dirt Jumps

A personal post! This hasn’t happened lately. My boys are getting older and at this stage they don’t love being photographed. But, I found a loophole! Put them on their bikes and voila, they are more than happy to be the stars. Below are three boys (I technically only have two) but I feel like we’ve adopted the little dude in the red pants.  He enjoys the dirt as much as my kids. When my two were little, they dug in dirt, rolled in dirt and probably ate some dirt. These days, they fly over the dirt. I wonder what they’ll do with it in the future…

Another Day Away – Abbotsford Family Photographer

Another post about my personal adventures? You betcha!  In the past few years, personal photos were few and far between around here. I’ve been learning a lot this year about living intentionally and allowing myself time for creative rejuvenation. My boys and nature have always been my main source of inspiration and so having the time to get behind the lens and capture amazing moments in our own lives is priceless to me. My husband invested in a little boat and now we’re able to have big adventures in small amounts of time. These photos were taken just a short boat ride away from Kilby Provincial Park near Agassiz. We hopped into the truck at around 5pm and enjoyed hotdogs over the fire, fishing and a wonderful sunset on a Sunday night.   Nothing makes me happier than these priceless moments shared with my three special boys.

The Studio – Abbotsford Photographer

A couple of years ago I decided it was time for the studio to get a fresh update (see the before photos here), and my handy husband and I decided to put in new flooring, paint, baseboards and furniture in both the studio and the office areas.  I was so happy with the results and the space has served much more efficiently since the changes. But now it’s time for change yet again! Over the last year we’ve been toying with the idea of either moving or making more renovations, and the renovating argument has won out.  Needless to say,  I’m a little overwhelmed!  Isn’t renovating right up there with death and taxes when it comes to stress levels and sleepless nights?!  I am relying on the husband’s expertise to pull this all off but I know I’ll get dirty in the process, too. We are going to build a 24×24 foot room that will house my studio and my office thus giving the use of the former office and studio to my growing boys who really need a place to hang out. After this process is complete, we’re going to do a lot more with our living space upstairs and create an oasis in our backyard but that’s still a long way off.  Right now, I’m super exited about getting a bigger studio and decorating a new space! Here’s to a low stress renovation… if that’s at all possible! 😉

Time to Reboot – Abbotsford Photographer

I hate thinking of myself as an artist, I’m much too boring for that! But I know deep down I really am, and as a creative type I desperately crave time away from things. I mean, really away. Away from phones and texts. Away from computers and people, away from pressures and schedules. I just need time to reboot! Why? Because this is what feeds my soul and that’s what I need to be creative.  Not long ago my boys and I took an amazing adventure across the continent to Florida and then hopped on a cruise ship bound for the Caribbean.  We enjoyed precious time together.   My favorite moments were the last few days in Florida when our schedules were wide open and we were free to connect with each other and with nature.  For me, the best vacations involve appreciating God’s creations alongside my three favorite boys. Here’s a little peek at our special journey.

My Boys – Andy Turns 11!

I’ve been trying to get this post up for days now!  It was one of those situations where everything seemed to go wrong. Little problems with sizing would pop up, interruptions with the kids, internet started lagging, etc, etc, etc.  So finally, after three days of trying, here is my suddenly huge and always handsome little boy. This was a celebration shoot to mark the wonderful occasion when my son Andy turns 11 years old! He decided that he wanted a haircut right before the photos and it turned him into a little gentleman.  I’m loving it!  One of the best parts of my life has been watching my boys slowly turning into men.  I am incredibly grateful for the moments I share with this charming boy.  He has made me a better person more and more since the wonderful day we first met.

Inspiration – Abbotsford Children’s Photographer

A few months back I dragged my children out at seven o’clock on a Saturday morning because I felt Inspiration. They were a little chilly but we ended up having a great time. Can’t beat a foggy sunrise in beautiful BC. They had a wonderful time exploring the land around the little river and eating a little picnic breakfast.

My Family – Abbotsford Family Photographer

Last weekend my husband noticed the weather forecast was for sunny skies and warm temperatures and suggested that my family get out for a night. I had to work during the day Saturday but he was amazing and packed everything for our mini get away. We arrived at Harrison Lake just after dinner time and enjoyed the most beautiful evening together. My son’s loved exploring in the canoe and were extra excited to do it for the first time by themselves. I was inspired the beautiful landscape and my husband, Andrew, was just so happy to be away for the big city. It was a perfect little vacation.

I’ve been hiding…

Well, I feel like I’ve been hiding under a rock lately.  It’s the huge burden of renovations and wow has it been a stressful time. Thankfully, I am finally seeing the end in sight.  Yipee!  Last year my husband and I started on our main living areas upstairs and that seemed to take up most of our spare time for the entire year.  This year I finally started progress on my office and studio.  I have been dreaming of this for three years and I am so excited to see it all finally coming together!  To celebrate this, I’ll soon be offering some amazing deals and unbelievable pricing! I can’t wait! I’m not giving myself a due date for things to be finished, so you’ll have to stay tuned for more information. A rough estimate would be sometime in April, but it will surely be an awesome event. Here are some quality iPhone photos taken by my son, Jack.  Andy is the other son, hard at work.  They’re such awesome helpers!
