Four Steps to Choosing Your Photo Session Wardrobe

I get asked all the time by clients about wardrobe and I often send them to Pintrest for ideas. It is loaded with inspiration but sometimes we all need a super simple way to plan. When doing my own family sessions I like to keep things really easy because I’m surrounded by boys who aren’t big fans of dressing up.  With this in mind, I made a chart with four steps to choosing your photo session wardrobe. This makes it easy to pick a wardrobe for your family photo session that works with your own personal style.  It helps to start by picking just two or three main colours and working with a variety of tones.  You’ll see this sample wardrobe is blue, purples and beige and there is a variety of each but in different tones so it’s not too matchy. I hope this helps you design your own wardrobe the next time you have a family photo session.

D&D Engagement – Abbotsford Photographer

Throwback Thursday is a great excuse to post an engagement session from last winter. And, why not? We’ve had some lovely heat lately in the Fraser Valley so looking back at the snow now feels okay.  However, looking at snow, after shoveling the driveway for the 18th time, wasn’t as much fun during the winter! These amazingly cute people are going to tie the knot in October. I’m very excited to work with them again! The engagement session was done in Manning Park at Lightning Lake.  It was really cool to walk across the frozen waters.  The last time I was there my clients paddled around in a boat as I waded into the warm waters. You’ve got to love BC for the incredible diversity our landscapes and weather offer.   I guess I won’t complain about the snow anymore!

On with the photos!

A & J Enagagement Session – Abbotsford Wedding Photographer

Have you had enough snow yet?! Well, this couple hadn’t 😉 We took a fun drive up to Hemlock Valley Resort to do their engagement session and enjoy the views off the twisty, turny road. They even tromped through thigh-high snow (in fancy footwear!) to get the angles and views I wanted. What troopers! I was so impressed. Their beautiful wedding will happen in the fall and we’re hoping for a little warmth that day. I am really looking forward to being their wedding photographer! If they’re half as willing to get a good shot on their wedding day, it will be amazing. In the meantime, these love birds will be enjoying the heat at home in Australia! Yeah, I’m super jealous 😉

Abbotsford Engagement Photographer – K&K Engagement Session

Another day, another amazing session. Seriously, being an engagement photographer is awesome. Just sayin’! Check out the beautiful, lovely, stunning (yes, I need to expand my vocabulary!) couple below. Aren’t they just, well…perfect!  K&K’s engagement session was on a cold day but we got out before the crazy #snowmageddon2017 hit us hard.  We took a trip out of Abbotsford to the other side of the Fraser River and watched eagles fly around while we did our thing.  We hit up a few spots including one with an awesome tree (see below) that I’ve been itching to try for a while. These two are so chill and laid back they didn’t mind me choosing the location. They did introduce me to this fabulous river and the train tracks though, so thanks for that, you two! I’m looking forward to photographing their wedding in June!

Abbotsford Wedding Photographer – S&J Engagement Session

I’m always excited when I get to photograph a few weddings in one family. This will be the third Schmuland brother with whom I’ve had the privilege to work. As expected, another true gentleman who chose a sweet and kind lady. We did this engagement session back on one of the few crisp and clear fall days we had.  It was a Friday and the days surrounding it were all dark and rainy so we were quite pleased to bask in the sun for a few hours in the afternoon.    This couple is planning a summer wedding and I’m really looking forward to being their wedding photographer.  I’m sure it will be another amazing wedding with lots of love and laughter.

Year in Review – Abbotsford Portrait Photographer

Well, this is a first! I’ve never done a Year in Review post and although I know things like this usually happen early in January, I thought it was time I tried one for myself! Better late than never, right? I was originally going through photos in order to start a new business Instagram account. I’ve been feeling like I need a new open platform to give clients a sneak peek into some of my work and Instagram seemed like the perfect place to start!  I took a little time (okay, way too much time) going through each and every family, newborn, toddler, maternity, engagement and wedding session I did during the last year and chose one photo from each.  JUST one. That was the really hard part! I get to know these clients so well during our time together that we leave as friends! How am I supposed to pick one picture out of all that fun? Still, I managed to do it, and here is the beautiful result! A little slice of the beautiful memories we made together this past year. Here’s to another great year, everyone! Enjoy!

Tricia and Tim – Abbotsford Engagement Photographer

I met Tricia and Tim at a lovely wedding for Tim’s brother earlier this year.  When doing the family photos I might have even made a joke with Tricia about getting a ring on her finger.   Well,  smart Tim didn’t waste too much time and come fall I had the an email that it was official.

We were very lucky to have the most fantastic fall weather for this session. The air was crisp and the color was still clinging to the trees. We took these photos alongside the dyke at McDonald Park and at McKay creek trail. It was the perfect backdrop for this session! The bridge reminds me of something you’d see in the autumn months of a calendar and I absolutely loved it. They look so happy and you can tell from a single glance how much these two love each other. These two individuals are kind and sweet and they are looking forward to their upcoming wedding in the spring.

If Tricia look famuliar you’ll recognize her from the BBBS post.  She is also a big sister!

Angela and Bryan – Abbotsford Water Engagement Session

So what do you do if your beautiful fiancee wants to jump in a lake for her engagement session but it’s November and therefore too cold outside? Well, if you’re Bryan, you schedule a second surprise engagement session for a few months later when the weather is nice and hot! What a guy! He certainly did surprise Angela and it was awesome to see her reaction. We had to arrange it last minute due to busy schedules, but the weather that day and the timing of the session worked out perfectly anyway.  They were both willing subjects and didn’t hesitate to hop right into the lukewarm waters at fantastic Cultus Lake.  Angela may look like she was putting up a fight, but I can tell you otherwise! She and her man were having the time of their lives playing together and having fun.

These two are seriously adorable, too. It’s incredibly evident that they are enamored with each other and I’m so happy they’ve found their perfect soul mate in one another.  Their much anticipated wedding is happening in August and I just can’t wait to be a part of it!

Amee & Josh – Abbotsford

I’m so lucky to have amazing, friendly clients. It only makes sense that they have amazing, friendly friends too! This classy couple- Amee and Josh- were referred to me by other awesome clients of mine, and I knew instantly that I’d like them. They are sweet and kind, and they had me laughing all through their session. They fit each other so perfectly! The groom works as a pilot and the bride has a job as a teacher. You can feel the love in the way they look at each other! We spent the day taking pictures at Fort Langley, and we luckily had some really gorgeous lighting the whole session. The sun even came by a few times for some really beautiful photographs!

Their fabulous wedding is scheduled for this coming August. I’m so excited for the both of them! I know it will be a day to remember.

Bryan and Angela – Abbotsford Engagement Photography

Big weddings can be a lot of work to organize, but that doesn’t worry this amazing couple. Bryan and Angela want a beautiful big wedding full of happy people around them on an August day to help them celebrate the beginning of their life together. In their opinion, the more the merrier! I know it will be an incredible occasion because I could tell right away how much they loved one another.

One special photo we took during this shoot was the sweet picture of the kiss hidden behind the pretty Autumn leaf. It turns out that Angela’s parents had a similar photo taken when they were married. Her mother and father shared a kiss behind the bouquet on their wedding day and the idea was just too adorable! On the big day, we will need to take a new one using her bouquet and the tradition will be complete!

Congrats Bryan and Angela! Looking forward to your big day.
